How to Make Teh Tarik & Café Drinks at Home
Craving kopitiam teh tarik without leaving the house? Here's the traditional way to pull it, plus the fastest shortcut when you just want the cup, not the workout.
The traditional teh tarik
- Brew strong black tea and strain it.
- Add condensed and/or evaporated milk and stir.
- "Pull" it: pour between two jugs held apart, back and forth, until it's frothy and smooth. That's what gives teh tarik its signature foam.
The no-fuss shortcut
No time to pull? The Tealive 3-in-1 Instant Drinks bring the café home — tear a sachet, add hot water, stir. Nine flavours, including a Gula Melaka Teh Tarik, plus milk teas, coffees and chocolates. JAKIM halal certified.
Make it iced
- Mix the drink with a little less water so it's stronger.
- Fill a glass with ice.
- Pour over, stir, and you've got an iced café drink.
Tips
- For teh tarik, the froth comes from the pull — the higher the pour, the more foam.
- With 3-in-1 sachets, start with less water for a bolder cup, then adjust.
- Stir well so nothing settles at the bottom.
