How to Make a Matcha Latte at Home — Hot & Iced
A good matcha latte at home costs a fraction of the café version and takes about three minutes. Here's the simple way — hot and iced — plus a no-whisk shortcut for busy mornings.
What you need
Matcha powder, hot water, milk (dairy or plant) and, if you like, a sweetener. A small whisk helps but a spoon or a shaker bottle works too. For pure, whisk-it-yourself matcha use NaturaBite Pure Matcha; for a no-fuss cup that already has creamer and sugar, use the instant Japanese Uji Matcha Latte powder — just add water or milk.
Hot matcha latte (3 minutes)
- Sift 1–2 tsp matcha into a cup — sifting kills the lumps.
- Add a little hot water (around 80°C, not boiling) and whisk to a smooth paste.
- Top with warm milk, sweeten to taste, and stir.
Iced matcha latte
- Make the matcha paste as above with a splash of hot water.
- Fill a glass with ice and cold milk.
- Pour the matcha over, stir, and enjoy.
Tips for a smoother latte
- Use water off the boil (about 80°C) — boiling water makes matcha bitter.
- Always sift: it's the difference between smooth and clumpy.
- Start with less matcha and adjust. Good matcha is a vivid, natural green.
Short on time? The instant latte powder skips the whisking entirely — scoop, add hot water or milk, done.
